![]() ![]() If this were entered into just the Foreign Extra Stout category (16D) this would score a bit better. Medium bodied, moderately low carbonation, high astringency (from the high use of roasted malts), slight alcohol warming, medium creaminess. Roasted grains are lingering in the finish and turns to a harsh bitterness til the very end. Low green pepper notes, no hop bitterness. Highly roasted malts dominate the flavor. Poured a tan, creamy head that has tight bubbles along the edge of the glass that is retaining very well. Jet black with ruby highlights in the sunlight. Moderately-high roasted grain, moderate dark chocolate, low vanilla and coffee notes, low caramel sweetness. Special Ingredients: Foreign Extra Stout aged on whole bean coffee Cheers to these guys for taking the plunge and starting up the brewery.Ĭategory: 30A – Spice, Herb, Vegetable Beer Biloxi Brewing was founded by four homebrewers down on the coast. Living in Mississippi I do my best to support the current 13 craft brewers in the state. I do my best to support local wherever I may be. ![]() The fruit character is almost perfect because it allows the base beer to shine while still being present. Now if this were judged in category Fruit Beer (29A), then this beer would have also scored very well. If this beer was a little drier and/or higher carbonated and had a more coriander, it would have scored in the high 30s low 40s. I get a hint of citrus, but the pear fruit really comes across as a watermelon-like flavor which is excellent in this style of beer. However, the beer is marketed to have pear cactus and grapefruit. The beer is labeled as a “gose-style” ale, so I was hoping to have a little more coriander. The coriander is an important component to a gose. Overall I think it’s a little too sweet and cloying for style. Solid summer ale.Ĭomments: I really enjoyed this beer. Carbonation is already too low for style The beer also needs a larger more prominent coriander presence. Mash lower, use some simple sugars, or increase the carbonation. This beer is a little sweet for style and is slightly cloying. The citrus and watermelon-like flavors makes me think this might be better off in a fruit category. I really enjoy the flavors this beer has to offer. Beer is a little on the sweet balance, especially in the finish. Moderate-lower bitterness with no hop flavor. Bright citrus up front with hints of lemons and watermelon. Moderate-low bread and bread crust malt flavors. ![]() White head with large bubbles that quickly falls. Moderate-low acidity which lends to a brightness to the aroma. Moderate-low bread crust malt and wheat aroma. Lets see how the Otra Vez tastes and compared to the style guidelines in the BJCP. The Westbrook Gose is one of my all-time favorite summer beers. CO2 Filtration: Used inline with your CO2 Kegging setup, this piece can be used to filter out any potential contaminants from your CO2 Tank.In this post, I’m sipping on one of my favorite summer beer styles, Gose. This has extended shelf life of Real Ales by up to 2 weeks! Air going back into the cask is sanitized through this filter. Hand Pumps: Some breweries use this filter with the breweries hand pump system. It is connected inline between pump/O2 tank and Stainless Diffusion Stone. ![]() Inline Aeration/Oxygenation Filter: With an oxygenation or aeration system, such as our FE375 or FE380, it will filter contaminants out of oxygen or air.It is not appropriate for long term storage of beer as it is not an oxygen barrier. Using the sanitary filter as airlock also eliminates the concern of drawing air back in as hot liquid cools and contracts in a fermenter. Works great for conical fermenters where air is taken in when samples are taken or trub is dumped. Unlike other small sanitary filters, this unit fits perfectly into a stopper. Airlock: The most common use might be as an airlock on any kind of fermenter. ![]()
